Say no to ulluco!

Ulluco is a South American root tuber finding favour with those who like to grow unusual vegetables. But if you’re thinking of growing it at Heathlands, please don’t. Non-native viruses found in ulluco grown in England can spread to and damage other crops, including potatoes, tomatoes, aubergines, peppers, spinach, beet, quinoa, cucumber, courgettes, marrows and squashes. Current DEFRA advice is that ulluco should not be imported or grown in the UK until the risks from it have been fully assessed. For further information see
