Barn Dance 2019

Our 2019 barn dance for plotholders, friends and family was held on Saturday 1st June at Sandhurst Social Club.

AGM 2018

The third Annual General Meeting of Heathlands Grow Your Own Limited was held on the evening of Saturday 17 November at the Sandhurst Social Club.  A summary of the evening will be posted shortly.

Summer BBQ 2018 – cancelled

Sadly, after all the hard work put in by those who helped tidy the communal area in readiness for the barbecue, we had to cancel this year’s event because of the low take-up of tickets. Let’s hope we have more success next year.

Barn dance 2018

Our second barn dance for plotholders was held on Saturday 17 March at Sandhurst Social Club, with – of course – a St Patrick’s Day theme, complete with leprechaun hats as table decorations. Once again, the Saxon Drain band and Chris their caller did a sterling job of getting everyone on the floor, and they all danced with great gusto. The fish and chips from the Golden Fry in Crowthorne were excellent, as always. A good time was had by all!

We had decided to donate all the takings from the raffle to the fund set up by the family of local lad Tom Stead, who died from osteosarcoma on Boxing Day, aged just 19. They want to help push forward research into bone cancer, and specifically osteosarcoma, and also help support those who are so cruelly touched by this disease. Their aim is to raise £100,000 in memory of Tom; 75% of the money raised will be donated to the Bone Cancer Research Trust, and 25% to Kamran’s Ward, who do such a great job treating and caring for children with cancer.

The result was fantastic: we raised in excess of £200, which we have gladly donated to this very worthy cause.

AGM 2017

The second Annual General Meeting of Heathlands Grow Your Own Limited was held on Saturday 7 October 2017, at Sandhurst Social Club.

This has been our second year in sole charge of the allotments at Heathlands. Mike Parsonage, our Chairman, reported that we have continued the progress we made in 2016, and currently we have only two vacant plots. We purchased six new sheds so that all new plotholders can have storage facilities and a place to shelter from the rain. We also acquired five incomplete greenhouses from the garden centre at no cost, and hope these will be suitable for use soon. The Board is currently exploring the option of installing our own water supply, independent of the garden centre.

Peter Walsh, our Treasurer, reported that our finances remain in good order, with a healthy bank balance. It remains our aim that we do not generate a profit, and that we accumulate sufficient funds to be able to pay our lease until it expires.

The meeting elected the Management Board for 2017/2018: see the About Us page.

Once the business part of the evening was completed, we enjoyed another excellent fish and chip supper supplied by the Golden Fry in Crowthorne, followed by a challenging, gardening-based quiz provided by our retiring Membership Secretary, Howard de Silva.

Summer BBQ 2017

On Sunday 10 September 2017 we hosted our second Summer BBQ.  It was a blustery day, but the rain held off, and over fifty plotholders, friends and family members enjoyed some good food and some good company. We’d like to thank everyone who attended, and everyone who worked hard to make the event such a success. The raffle raised nearly £80, which we’ll put towards buying prizes for the AGM raffle, when we’ll be aiming to raise money to donate to Thames Hospice, the local charity providing expert care for people living with life-limiting illnesses in East Berkshire and South Buckinghamshire.

Barn dance 2017

Our first social event of 2017 was a barn dance for plotholders, their families and friends, held on Saturday 25 March at Sandhurst Social Club. It was really enjoyable, with dancing to the superb Saxon Drain band, and excellent fish and chips from the Golden Fry in Crowthorne. The comments next day speak for themselves: “A great night… can we do it again please?”; “A really good evening”; “An absolutely brilliant evening”. We very much hope to make it an annual event!

We had decided to donate all takings from the raffle to the fund for Reuben, a three-year-old boy who has the rare cancer neuroblastoma, and needs expensive treatment that is not available here from the NHS (see https://www.gofundme.com/xtkdkh4y-reubens-fight). Together with sales of some home-made jams and preserves, we raised well over £100, which was a great result.

AGM 2016

The first Annual General Meeting of Heathlands Grow Your Own Limited was held on Saturday 8 October 2016, at Sandhurst Social Club The business part of the evening was followed by a quiz night with a fish and chip supper, and a raffle.

The evening was well attended, and everyone seemed to enjoy the chance to relax, meet fellow plotholders, and have fun at the same time.

Summer BBQ 2016

On Sunday 10 July 2016 we hosted our inaugural Summer BBQ.  The event was well attended by plotholders, along with their friends and families.  We hope everyone who came along enjoyed the afternoon, and we’d like to thank you all for your support.

Event suggestions

We’re hoping to organise regular events for all plotholders, and we welcome suggestions on the types of event you’d like us to host.  Please get in touch to let us know if there’s anything that would be of particular interest to you.  Thanks.
